'Bama Rig Banned

It finally happened; the Alabama Rig has seen it's first ban among major tournament trails.  I had a feeling this was going to happen and now it has.  Bassmaster has banned the Alabama Rig (and all of the other versions) for it's Bassmaster Elite Series and Bassmaster Classic.  They did not ban it for the Opens and everything below that level.  It was an interesting decision given the popularity of the rig and the monster bass it has been catching.  It seems like lately B.A.S.S. has been about making a good show and having the biggest and best bass on stage to make for good pictures and tv, but this was a statement that they want to keep things professional.

Since they limited the rules to one lure and one line, they have also banned double fluke rigs, double topwaters and the use of a jig on the bottom of a drop-shot rig.

You can read the whole story here.  They mention how they will continue to cover the rig and how to use it in the magazine and online.

One good quote from the article was how "the Elite Series Rules Committee members unanimously asked to be held to a higher standard."  Talk about being an Elitist Series.

What are your thoughts on the ban?
