A Punchin' Contest

The evolution of the punchin' technique continues each year. Eco Pro Tungsten is one company who really gets the fact that this way of fishing requires specialized tackle.  At ICAST they introduced the Honey Badger Punch skirt.  It's unlike most other skirts out there because it has a built in trailer and also has an X-Metal collar so it stays together longer.  The other thing they came out with was the specialized Punch Weights.  Of course, being from Eco Pro, they are made of tungsten.  I saw them at ICAST and immediately liked how thin the design was, it's going to be much better for punching that thick grass.  I was talking to Brandon Palaniuk about them and he was just as excited about them.

So here's your chance to see them for yourself.  Eco Pro allowed me to give away five packs of skirts and five packs of weights!  There will also be another contest on their Facebook page coming soon, so you can enter both if you like.

Here are details of the contest.  Each of these things will get you an entry: comment on this post, like my Facebook page, or tweet this contest to your friends.  That's it.  Contest runs until August 30th at midnight. The winner will be announced on the 31st.

Atomic Tackle Company Contest Starts Now!

As I mentioned a few days ago, there is a new contest coming up. It's actually starting right now!

Thanks to our friends at Atomic Tackle Company, we are giving away the hottest lure to hit the market in the last few years; the castable umbrella rig.

Atomic makes their own version and calls it the Agitator.  I have tried a bunch of different ones and this is the one I choose. For the contest, I am giving away a five wire version in painted silver.  The head weighs 3/8oz.  Interested?

Here's how the contest works:

First, go to AtomicTackleCompany.com and check out their store.  Once you do that, post a comment here or on my Facebook with the name of another product they make.

If someone already chose that item, you can change it to be more specific.  For example, if someone says Spinnerbait, you can enter by saying: "Spinnerbait in Old Glory color".

Get it?  It's that easy.

The winner will be selected randomly (from random.org) on Monday morning.  The contest runs until Sunday at midnight (Eastern Time).

Good luck!

Atomic Tackle Company Contest Coming Soon

I recently found out about a company called Atomic Tackle Company from fellow blogger Chris McDonald.  I first started using their castable umbrella rig, "The Agitator" and was really impressed.

After looking at all the products I am excited to use the rest of the products and have some reviews planned as well as a contest for everyone to enter for your chance to try the baits for yourself.

Stay tuned!

How much do you spend on gas for fishing?

We all know bass boats love burning gas, but just how much does it take to fish an entire season on the Bassmaster Elite Series?  Good thing Biobor EB did the math for us.  They found that anglers spend over $70 a day on boat gas.  That averages out to over $3,000 per angler for a total of over $300,000 for the entire field. Wow.

How much does it take to fill up your tank?

How much do you typically go through in a day?

You can read more about their findings below and also get some hints for next year's contest.

During the 2011 Bassmaster Elite Series season Hammonds Fuel Additives, Inc., the manufacturers of Biobor EB, the Ethanol Buster, tracked the gas usage of Bradley Roy and Cliff Crochet as part of a fan contest.  Biobor EB reviewed the data and made several observations.

Roy used 918 gallons compared to Crochet’s 730 gallons over 44 official Elite Series practice and competition days each.  Assuming these two young anglers were a fair representation of the Elite field (average of 44.96 days fished), an Elite angler burned an average of 18.73 gallons of gas per day.  Thus, the 100 angler field burned 84,210 gallons of gas over the 8 event season.

The national average price of gas during the 2011 Elite Season was $3.74.  That worked out to $70.05 of gas per man, per day.  Over the Elite Series season the total cost of boat gas for the Elite anglers was $314,945.

Those 84,210 gallons were treatable with just 351 16-ounce bottles of Biobor EB.  The leading ethanol treatment product would require 527 bottles.  When purchased at Academy Sports + Outdoors or West Marine, anglers save over 20% on their fuel treatment costs using Biobor EB.

In 2012 Biobor EB will again present fans with the opportunity to fish with their pro staff, just as contest winners Justin Lear of Kentucky and Tony Posey of Alabama did in 2011.  The 2012 Biobor EB contest will also feature increased weekly prizes and both anglers will hand out Biobor EB samples to fans.

Who would you rather fish with; Bradley Roy or Cliff Crochet?

I have been participating in the Biobor EB contest all year because I thought it was a cool idea for a contest.  I won the last event and the prize packages have started to roll in.  I received some Taylor Man's Custom Lures and have some Rugged Shark shoes and other stuff on the way.  I just voted for the final prize and really hope to win.  I'm still not sure which angler I would pick as they both seem like pretty cool guys.  Who would you pick?

Here is the entire press release:

Houston, TX – Today Hammonds Fuel Additives, Inc. announced a Grand Prize fishing excursion for fans of Elite Series anglers Bradley Roy and Cliff Crochet.  Two fans and their guests will fish with the Biobor EB pros on their home waters of Kentucky and Louisiana.

Each week fans have won prize packages from Biobor EB, Rugged Shark, Rat-L-Trap and Taylor Man’s by guessing the number of gallons of gas used by Roy or Crochet at each Elite Series event.  Fans can now also win a Grand Prize by simply guessing how many gallons of fuel their angler used over the entire 8 event Elite Series season, all of which were treated with Biobor EB.  Biobor EB is proven to effectively treat 45% more fuel than the competition.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
Participation is simple.  Go to the Biobor.com website and click on the Fishing Contest (direct link is http://www.hammondscos.com/index.php?id=270).  Click the Facebook button to Like Biobor.  Select one of the anglers and enter a guess of how much fuel he used during the entire Elite season.

Each winner will receive a prepaid Visa card for their travel costs to Kentucky or Louisiana.  The contest will end on July 31st.

Roy has proven to be on the move a good bit more than Crochet; burning an average of 24 gallons more per week.  “I’ve always liked to drive a boat around,” Roy joked.  “In all seriousness, Biobor EB is an awesome product that I love to recommend.  My motor ran exceptionally well this year and I’ve saved a lot of money treating it with Biobor EB.  Best of luck to everyone in the contest…I know where the big ones live in Kentucky so if someone wants to catch big fish pick me!”

“Bradley and I have been running Biobor EB in our boats and Biobor MD in our diesel trucks, and sleep well at night knowing we are taking great care of our equipment,” said Crochet.  “As for the grand prize of a fishing trip with Bradley or me…who is more fun and will put people on more fish than the Cajun Baby?”
