A win for first weekend with the new boat

This weekend was our first time really fishing out our new new Legend Alpha 199.  We drove to Arkansas and back last week and finally got into the water this weekend, which was also our Fort Myers Bass Club event on Lake Placid. Tanya fished with me and won the whole tournament!

We fished yesterday and also spent some time breaking in the Mercury Pro XS.  We fished here and there and really didn't find anything too great.  Lake Placid is pretty unique for a Florida lake as it has some deep holes (30-50ft) and also some clear water that is perfect for finesse fishing.  I always do really well there and love the little lake.  We caught two fish in one area yesterday and that was enough to convince us to stay there all day. We fished back and forth between the two waypoints all day without ever cranking the engine.  Tanya said it was the most boring fishing she has ever done and compared it to trout fishing.  If we weren't catching fish once in a while it would be much worse.

The fish came on a variety of soft plastics; a Nojo's Handpour worm and Roboworm on drop-shot, a carolina-rigged brush hog, and a Z-Man Finesse WormZ on a shaky head.  The shakyhead is what Tanya caught her big fish on, which weighed in at 6.36 lbs.  She had a total of 14.98lb , which was pretty stout for this lake and this time of year.  I finished fourth with 10.55.  She whooped me...but I was proud. She also caught one on the Bombshell turtle...on a drop-shot.  Yes...on a drop-shot. 

First place and big fish is a great way to end our first tournament in the new boat.

Also, if you notice there are no pictures.  This time of year, fish care is crucial.  The surface temps were 90 degrees and the fish weren't doing well so we rushed them back to the water to ensure they would survive. But...here is a pic of our new boat.
