An Awesome Flipping Jig - Taylor Man's Custom Lures

It's almost like deja vu each time I start to review a Taylor Man's Custom Lures bait.  I start to think about the bait and what makes it so great and I keep coming up with the same basic things; quality construction, quality components, and a quality product.  Are you starting to see a theme here?  Even though I have said it before, the fact remains; Taylor Man's Custom Lures makes some of the best baits on the market and the quality is second to none.  With all of that being said, I am going to review the Taylor Man's Custom Lures flipping jig (without sounding like a repeat of all of the other great stuff they make).

The flipping jig has really hit my area by storm in the past few months.  Lake Okeechobee has traditionally been a soft-plastic-only deal for flipping and pitching, but the jig has really produced well lately.  Look no further than the recent Elite Series event and the EverStart tournament from January if you want proof.  I have been using these baits for a few months and until now, I was a little hesitant to tell everyone about this jig.  Now that the secret is out that jigs smash bass on Okeechobee, I can proceed.  

The jig is such a simple tool for bass fisherman and I think we often overlook what makes a good jig.

Starting with the skirt - the debate is always silicone or living rubber, but with Taylor Man's you can have either one.  So no matter what side of the fence you are on, they have you covered.

The hook is one of the most crucial parts of a jig - As with all of their baits, they use Gamakatsu...super sharp and reliable.  The flipping jigs from Taylor Man's feature a stout hook designed for braided lines (a must in my opinion.)

The head comes in three colors - black, brown and an olive green they call camo.  The jig is made in four sizes.  You can see the weight sizes with hook sizes below:

Colors: Both the living rubber and silicone jigs have a huge selection of great colors.  I did a quick count and saw over thirty different color combinations.  There are some unique ones too.

There are more details to this jig which I appreciate - a heavy weed guard that is matched to the head color, Hi-Tech paint to resist chipping and the added rattles are nice to have.

At $3.99 or $4.49 depending on what skirt you want, it is higher than most mass-produced jigs that are made in other countries.  Compared to other premium, custom lure companies, it is priced right.

Great jig overall.  It does what it's supposed to.  I like the added rattles for more sound.

It's still a basic design, but the quality components keep it at a 3.
